Water leakage leaves road damaged near Comba rly crossing

MARGAO

'A stitch in time saves nine' so goes the good adage. On World Water Day, the PWD may have to do soul-searching over the suspected water leakage on the main road near the Comba railway crossing over the last several months.

For, while there is been no measures put in place to plug the leakage, the continuous water flow at the spot has now left the road damaged. The road at the busy traffic junction near the Comba railway crossing plays host to two craters caused by the water seepage.

The craters, if left unattended, motorists pointed out may result in an accident and also hamper the smooth movement of traffic at the junction, which plays host to traffic snarls when the railway crossing is shut for traffic.

PWD Executive Engineer, Roads Prasad Panandikar, when contacted, pointed out that the PWD, Water Supply will have to attend to the problem to find out whether the water leakage is on account of a damaged line and plug the same.

To a question, he said the PWD, roads will take up the job of filling up the two holes developed at the junction once the PWD, water supply rectifies the problem and plugs the leakage.

Motorists as well as residents pointed out that the junction had witnessed water leakage for several months now. They, however, hastened to add that they have no idea whether the leakage is due to a damaged pipeline or otherwise.

“The PWD ought to have attended to the problem promptly when the leakage had first come to light some months ago. The situation has now left the road damaged with the craters now posing danger to motorists,” remarked a citizen.

Meanwhile, the Chinchinim panchayat launched a “Fix the water leak campaign” in the village on Wednesday. The week-long campaign will end on March 31, during which time citizens have been requested to report to the concerned panchayat members if they come across water leakage or water getting wasted in their locality.
