After Selaulim pipeline burst in Sanguem at Velipwada of Cotali village near Selaulim dam on Tuesday, there was no supply of water in several areas of Mormugao taluka. Though the PWD had informed of restricted water supply in parts of the taluka, taps ran dry in many areas of Vasco and people had to opt for water from water tankers.
Worst affected were areas of Sada, Vaddem and New Vaddem where there were reports of fights amongst residents after water was supplied to them in tankers by the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC).
Sources said that several areas of Vasco like Baina saw no water supply for over 36 hours with last supply coming on Tuesday morning. The scarce water supply caused the residents of Mormugao Taluka a lot of inconvenience. A source in the PWD said that supply was likely to be affected on Thursday as well.
“Since the big pipeline bursted, there was no supply of water to storage tanks that cater to Mormugao. The effects of this were witnessed in Mormugao taluka where there was a scarcity of water. Work is going on and repair works have already begun,” said the source.
Meanwhile in areas of housing board at New Vaddem water was brought by tankers and residents rushed to collect their share of water. Sada also witnessed a similar scene. There were also reports that certain areas in Cortalim also faced a water shortage.
