Issues pertaining to water scarcity and bad roads dominated the discussions during PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral’s visit to Sattari taluka on Monday.
Elected representatives from Valpoi town and other panchayats complained that many proposals submitted to departments concerned were not approved on time and they demanded that such proposals be approved immediately.
Cabral had chaired a meeting in the Valpoi Municipal Council Hall (VMC) and among those present included Poriem MLA and GFDC Chairperson Deviya Rane, Sattari Dy Collector Praveen Parab, Mamlatdar Dasharath Gawas, VMC Chairperson Sehzeen Shaikh, BDO Suryajirao Rane, ZP Member Sagun Wadkar, Devyani Gavas, Rajashree Kale, panchayat members and other officials.
During the meeting, the panchayat members demanded an immediate and permanent solution to the water scarcity issue and they suggested increasing the capacity of the Dabose Water Project and if possible, setting up new water treatment plants in different parts of Sattari.
VMC Chairperson Sehzeen Sheikh and councillor Ramdas Shirodkar raised the issue of bad roads reference at many places in the municipality.
Pissurlem Sarpanch Devanand Parab and Honda Sarpanch Shivdas Madkar demanded improved water supply to their respective villages. Panch member Smita Mote demanded that the road issue, which has been pending for many years, be resolved immediately at Bhuipal.
Khotoda Sarpanch Namdev Rane demanded the construction of a water tank in the panchayat area to resolve the problem of water supply. Panchayat members Saloni Gawkar and Rohidas Gawkar also raised questions related to water.
Poriem Sarpanch Rati Gawkar and Bhinroda Sarpanch Udaysingh Rane also highlighted problems of drinking water and roads before the minister.
Thane Sarpanch Sarita Gawkar demanded the hotmixing of the road in the panchayat area, while Panch Member Nilesh Parwar demanded immediate approval of the proposal for new roads from Pali to Jambhul Junction. Vinayak Gawas said a water tank should be set up at Charavane, while Tanaya Gawkar raised the issue of drinking water.
Sanvordem Deputy Sarpanch Shivaji Desai and Nagargao Sarpanch Sandhya Khadilkar also demanded the hotmix of roads in their respective villages.
Keri Sarpanch Diksha Gawas and Morle Sarpanch Amit Shirodkar demanded improved water supply, while Mauxi Sarpanch Somnath Kale also demanded a solution to the water problem in Zarme, Dabe, Mauxi and Koparde.
Poriem MLA Deviya Rane said the government had launched the initiative to get ministers to visit different talukas and address issues in the various talukas and to improve facilities for people in rural areas.
Plans to increase capacity of Dabose Water Project: Cabral
VALPOI: Responding to demands from various panchayats for better water supply, PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral said a proposal to increase the capacity of the Dabose Water Project has been submitted to the State government.
“Dabose water project has a capacity of 15 MLD and if this capacity is increased, water scarcity can be resolved in many places. A proposal in this regard has been submitted to the government and it will be approved as soon as possible,” assured Cabral.
“Similarly, if possible, efforts will be made to set up a new water project at Morle to provide water supply to Poriem, Morle, Honda, Pisurle etc.”
