Water seeps into GMC super-specialty block; Chief Minister says Covid facilities unaffected

PANAJI
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said that all major Covid facilities across the state remained largely unaffected.

In his address, CM Sawant disclosed that in anticipation of the impact of Tauktae, arrangements were made in advance by the Electricity Department and power backup was ensured through generators at all the hospitals involved in Covid management.

“Scoop Oxygen plant suffered power failure for a short period of time. But we were successful in restoring the power there. The power supply at Goa Medical College and Hospital was interrupted for around 15 minutes and we managed to restore it before any issues or inconveniences cropped up,” CM Sawant informed.

He requested all MLAs to refrain from pressurizing the District Collectors to prioritize the issues of their constituents. “Collectors have been asked to focus on clearing the main roads and highways first to ensure smooth transportation of Covid patients. Power resumption will be given a priority,” CM said.

Sawant further said that commissioning of the 20,000 litre cryogenic oxygen tank at old GMC on Saturday ensured that none of the Covid wards at GMC suffered any problems on Sunday.

“Had that tank not been operationalized yesterday, we would have surely faced issues,” he said, adding that the remaining oxygen is being supplied to the old manifold by Scoop Oxygen. The oxygen trolleys will now be used for non-Covid wards if the need arises since all Covid wards have been shifted to the cryogenic tanks.

It was learned that there was a slight delay in refilling the oxygen tanks at GMC and at South Goa District Hospital with the tanker carrying the oxygen from Canacona being held up in a road blockage due to a fallen tree.

“But that cleared out and the tank at South Goa District Hospital has been refilled. The two tanks on GMC campus are being refilled now,” CM said speaking on Sunday evening.

Excess jumbo cylinders filling has also restarted and they are available everywhere now, it was announced.
