Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai was honoured at an Iftar party hosted by the Goa Haj Committee Chairman Urfan Mullah at the Anjuman School in Rumdamol on Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering in the presence of Deputy Speaker Joshua D’Souza, MLAs Digambar Kamat and Sankalp Amonkar, ex-Dy. CM Manohar Ajgaonkar, Councilors and citizens, the Governor said, “We are living in a country where different religions lead to God. And, we respect each and every religion.”
Explaining that Islam means peace, the Governor said, “The message of fasting is to do self-introspection whether we strictly conduct our lives as per the tenets and commitment to God.”
Saying that he must have attended thousands of Iftar parties before becoming the Governor, Pillai pointed out that this is the first time he is attending an Iftar party as Governor of the state, even as he extended his message of love to the Muslim community.
On the occasion, a portrait of the Governor painted by an Anjuman School teacher was handed over to Pillai.
