What keeps Tawadkar waiting for ticket

With four key portfolios under his command, two terms in power, staunch RSS ties and claims to have pushed projects worth Rs 550 crore in Canacona constituency alone, Ramesh Tawadkar should have been the obvious BJP candidate to contest a third five-year term.

But that has not happened and Tawadkar has had to face the embarrassment of being relegated to the waiting list by the State BJP leadership along with four other sitting MLAs.   
Faced with an awkward position, Tawadkar has realised that contesting elections has become a secondary issue for him, as his primary challenge is to fight a battle to retain the party ticket and safeguard his political career.   
And to add insult to injury, Tawadkar is being made to take part in a preliminary contest with his friend turned arch-rival, former MLA Vijay Poi Khot, for the prized BJP ticket from Canacona constituency.   
According to analysts, party workers and a cross section of people in Canacona taluka, a number of factors have been attributed to Tawadkar’s growing decline in confidence within the party leadership.
