Goa Congress Congress Committee President Shantaram Naik questioned why there were not raids on BJP leaders who were known to be matka agents even as he alleged that a prominent matka agent from Panaji had campaigned for Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar during the recent Panaji Assembly by-poll.
Speaking in the context on the raids on leader of opposition and Congress MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar and his brother both of whom are accused of violating the Goa Public Gambling Act, Shantaram also insisted that BJP'
"Why is it that there are no raids on BJP leaders who are known to be matka agents? One of them was campaigning for Manohar Parrikar during the recent Panaji by-poll," Shantaram said.
"The BJP is trying to get our MLAs to join them. Our MLAs are not going to join them," Shantaram Naik said.
Naik was asked about the ‘harassment' meted out to Congress leaders by the ruling BJP. "Why is it that they are reviving this case after seven years? If the properties in Kerala he has allegedly bought are in question, how long does it take for to go to Kerala and measure the properties and find out their value?" Shantaram asked.
