Wife of ex-sarpanch heads Merces p’yat

OLD GOA r rThe ruling panel has seven panchas on their sides, which include, apart from the sarpanch and the deputy, five other panchas, namely Geeta Kavlekar, Pranita Kalangutkar, Rufina Quadros, Mukesh Shirgaonkar and Prakash Naik. rSpeaking to the media after her election, sarpanch Palyekar said that her top priority would be to tackle the garbage menace in the village while also ushering in development of the village, an opinion which was also endorsed by the deputy. rHowever, when questioned if they would occupy their respective posts for five years or whether it would be shared, both preferred to remain mum. rBut sources close to the ruling panel informed The Goan that an understanding has been reached to rotate the sarpanch’s post equally among the four women panchas of the ruling panel. rEOVP Anil Dhumaskar was the presiding officer for the election while secretary Bheldas Karapurkar assisted him. rMeanwhile, Prakash Naik, the man behind the formation of the panel, informed that one of the main aims during the current term would be to set up a waste treatment plant for the village. “We have already identified a site where the plant would be set up,” Naik stated
