Will the authorities, including the Margao Municipal Council and the district authorities clear the open area adjoining the Margao fire station from the illegal katcha structures, during the beautification of the Aquem ring road stretch?
This question is being asked by citizens and even by fire personnel as the temporary structures which have come up around a Deen Dayal kiosk, close to the fire station, has become a hub of anti-social activities.
A fire personnel told The Goan that the katcha structures are being used by a group of migrants for anti-social activities. “We sometimes find it difficult to even take out the fire tender as we often find people sleeping right on the motorable road,” the fire man informed.
Citizens wondered why the Margao Municipal Council has turned a blind eye to the illegal structures adjoining the fire station, pointing out that the authorities should at least take cognizance of the difficulties faced by the
fire personnel in removing their fire tenders in times of emergencies.
PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar in the presence of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Margao Municipal Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai had launched the beautification of the Aquem stretch of the ring road from the Aquem Power house to the Aquem side of the railway station, intended to stop the indiscriminate dumping of waste along the road.
The illegal shanties adjoining the fire station also comes along the ring road alignment, with concerned citizens wondering whether the area will be rid of the illegal temporary structures.
