Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao has warned that the government will complete work on the Navelim-Benaulim bridge with police protection if anyone tries to stop work on the incomplete bridge project.
Addressing the media, Churchill further demanded action against former Navelim MLA Avertano Furtado for stopping work on the bridge during his stint as MLA, thereby causing loss to the exchequer.
Saying that work on the incomplete Navelim-Benaulim bridge has resumed after the government floating a fresh tender due to the intervention by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Churchill said PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar has promised to complete the balance portion of the bridge work with police protection. “The bridge work was taken up during my stint as PWD Minister around a decade ago with CRZ clearance, but was stopped by Avertano and others. They had caused loss to the exchequer as the contractor discontinued the work and claimed damages. Now, work on the abandoned bridge has recommenced, and I have been told that the contractor has been warned to stop the work. I want to make clear that the government has promised to take the work to the logical conclusion with police protection”, he said.
He added: “These very same people had also tried to stop the Telaulim-Varcabridge, but the TelaulimSarpanch and the people stood firm and got the bridge complete. The present government will complete the Navelim-Sinquetim bridge”.
