Will the concerned agencies coordinate to get the homeless and the beggars from the Commercial capital for the second round of Covid vaccination for persons without the prescribed ID cards scheduled at the TB hospital, Monte Hill on August 7?
South Goa Additional Collector Sanjit Rodrigues has drafted Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar as the nodal officer for the vaccination session at the TB hospital on August 7. The Deputy Collector, Margao has been appointed as the overall in-charge of vaccination session, but the moot question remains unanswered “ whether the authorities have carried out the spade work to get the homeless and the beggars for the special vaccination session.
Last time round, the initiative to get the homeless and beggars vaccinated via a special session had evoked lukewarm response for want of publicity amongst the stakeholders.
Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar said his office will coordinate with the Margao Municipal Council and the police in bringing the homeless and the beggars for vaccination. “We are discussing the matter with MMC and police officials how to go about the job. We have information that the homeless and the destitute all gather around the Margao Municipal garden to collect lunch packets from good samaritans. We will see whether these people can be taken to the hospital after lunch”, he said.
Sources pointed out that the commercial capital must be playing host to over 300 homeless and destitute persons who have made the city pavements and garden their home. Mostly migrants, these people had arrived in the city to take up jobs of loaders in the markets.
