Saying that late Dr Kashinath Jalmi will be his idol as Opposition Leader, Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat has asserted that he will play a constructive role as a Leader of Opposition by raising issues concerning the common man and will work to protect the identity of Goa.
“There is a team of bureaucrats to guide the Chief Minister. This team is not available for the Leader of Opposition, but my fellow Goans will be my advisors and I will work wholeheartedly to raise their issues. Former Leader of Opposition late Dr Kashinath Jalmi will be my Idol,” Digambar Kamat said during his speech at the felicitation ceremony organised by Madgao Nagarik Samiti at MCC Hall.
Saying that government is a continuous process and it is the duty of the incumbent government to make good and corrective actions on wrongdoings and irregularities which have happened in the past, Kamat said it will be in the interest of the State if the present government takes suggestions from the Opposition which will help the government to reduce wasteful expenditure and reduce the burden of loans.
Kamat was felicitated at the hands of Principal Madhav Kamat and Justice Utkarsh Bakre by presenting a memento in the presence of Ranjan Naik, Adv Cleofato Coutinho, Datta Damodar Naik, Girish Chodankar, Tito Cardoso, Iftikar Sheikh and Anil Pai who were present on the dais.
“In democracy the role of Leader of Opposition is equally important as that of the Chief Minister of the State. I have full confidence that Digambar Kamat will play his role responsibly,” said Principal Madhav Kamat. Justice Utkarsh Bakre also praised Digambar Kamat for his simplicity and kind nature.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Datta Damodar Naik, Adv Cleofato Almeida Coutinho, Girish Chodankar, Iftikar Sheikh.
Earlier businessman Pradeep Naik drove Digambar Kamat from residence in his vintage car to the venue. He was welcomed to beats of Dhol -Tasha and showering of flower petals. The other dignitaries were welcomed with flower plants.
The function was attended by Mathagramasth Hindu Sabha President Pandurang alias Bhai Naik, Daivadnya Samaj President Atul Verlekar, Gujarati Samaj President Mukesh Saglani, Vasantbhai Kanji, Dr Deepak Lawande, Mohandas Lolayenkar, R S Kamat, Former Chairperson Ajit Hegde and Sishila Naik, R R Raikar, Dr Harishchandra Nagvenkar, Adv Pratima Coutinho, Prasanna Utagi, Radhakant Pai Kane, local councillors and well-wishers of Digambar Kamat in large numbers.
