The Covid pandemic claimed 61 more lives in Goa in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative death toll to just 2 short of the 2000-mark at 1,998, sending a shock wave across the State and public at large. Meanwhile, more 2,455 (36.26 %) samples of the total tested 6,769 were found positive for Covid on Friday and the recoveries registered were 2,960, while the total active count in Goa stands at 32,387.
As the tragic chain of deaths during the ‘dark hours’ continue at the GMC, 13 more Covid patients breathed their last during the wee hours, this despite the intervention and the public pressure. Ironically, the time (2 am to 6 am), being referred to by the High Court as ‘the dark hours’, is still not brought under control of the watchful eyes or any monitoring is seen to be done during this time when the oxygen supply reportedly fluctuates.
Like the last few days, frantic calls were made by the relatives of the patients and social workers, pointing out shortage of oxygen at some GMC wards, which prompted senior officials to rush to the hospital. However, 13 lives could still not be saved. It may be noted that 26 people had died on May 11 and 15 on May 12 in the wee hours.
