A day after the inauguration of the high resolution Closed Circuit TV surveillance cameras on the Cavelossim-Assolna bridge, the Cavelossim panchayat has written a letter to the Superintendent of Police, South Goa to start challaning the traffic violators on the bridge.
In the letter, Sarpanch Dixon Vaz drew attention of the South Goa district police chief to the installation of the CCTV cameras on the bridge. “The Village Panchayat of Cavelossim has installed Solar CCTV on Cavelossim-Assolna bridge which have become a hub for anti-social activities such as drinking and eating on the bridge and creating nuisance. Vehicles were being parked on the road, causing inconvenience to the public,” Dixon said.
In his letter, the Cavelossim sarpanch has requested the district police chief to authorise the department to start issuing fines and challans to the violators based on the CCTV footage.
Saying the police have been doing their best by patrolling on the bridge, Dixon, however, pointed out the situation could not be brought under control. “We have also installed No Parking signs on the bridge as well,” he added.
Copies of the letter have been sent to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Margao, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic Cell, Margao, the Police Inspector, Colva Police Station, and the Police inspector Traffic Cell, Colva for necessary action.
