With eye on MMC, 3 key panels lay emphasis on garbage, parking lots

Vibrant Margao, Fatorda Forward and Model Margao unveil manifestos with promises of host of other civic amenities

The three major panels vying to win honours in the Margao Municipal Council, including BJP-backed Vibrant Margao, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat’s Model Margao and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai’s Fatorda Forward have promised a host of civic amenities to Madgavkars and Fatordekars as the city goes to the polls on April 23.

The burning garbage issue, absence of parking lots, the stray dog menace, the long-delayed bus stand, streamlining waste collection are some of the common promises that found a mention in the manifesto of the three panels unveiled on Friday. Take note these and other issues have been on the agenda of the key players vying to control the Margao civic body over the years, but in vain.

Vibrant Margao assures  to clean up Sonsodo by 2022
MARGAO: Senior BJP leaders led by Vibrant Margao chairman Damu Naik and convenor Rajendra Talak launched the manifesto at the hands of former MMC chairperson Kamlini Painginkar, promising to clean up Sonsodo by 2022 and a completion to the waste problem by 2024.
The ruling party has promised to build three multi-storeyed car parking structures in the city to solve traffic congestion. The group has promised to tackle the stray dog issue head on with the help of NGOs. The group has mulled three bus stands, an inter-state bus stand, State bus stand and a city bus stand by 2025.
In a bid to tone up the Municipal administration, Damu has mooted single window clearance for registration of births and  deaths. “Each elected member will vist their ward and update the Council regarding the pending work every week,” he said.
Rajendra Talak said all the heritage houses on the verge of collapse within the MMC are to be proposed to the government for the refurbishment.
Damu also promised to set up day care centres for the senior citizens, with a further promise to cover the entire market area and garbage collection centre with CCTV cameras.

Fatorda Forward for making Fatorda smart city
MARGAO: Unveiling the Fatorda Forward’s election manifesto by demanding that the government make Fatorda a smart city, Goa Forward  chief Vijai Sardesai has mulled a town hall on the land acquired for the non-conventional energy park. A cycle velodrome in order to bring cycling culture in Fatorda has been proposed in the manifesto.
“A world renowned architect to conceptualise and design Fatorda Town Hall to international standards will be roped in by the panel. We also proposed to set up a Food Truck Park in Fatorda and address the Fatorda bus stand issue by taking the Fatorda Margao Bus Terminus to its logical conclusion,” he said.
On the garbage issue, Sardesai said the Council has taken up the clearance of Sonsodo legacy dump, and stressed on the need to work out garbage solutions. In this context, he has mulled road cleaning machine to ensure dust-free Fatorda.
Outlining the various achievements of the Fatorda Forward in the last five years, Sardesai said Fatorda had taken big strides in the infrastructure development, including the UAE model SGPDA retail fish market and Ravindra Bhavan-Arlem Smart Road.
“Fatorda is set to be the first ‘future-ready’ constituency in Goa and would implement e-governance facilities for its residents in MMC, introduce community farming parks to increase the year round greenery of the constituency,” he added.

Model Margao for reviving citizens facilitation centre to decentralise admin
MARGAO: Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat released his manifesto at Pimpalkatta along with candidates after dedicating the first copy of the Model Margao’s manifesto to Lord Dambab.
Outlining his dream to make Margao an Ultra-Modern city, Kamat mulled reviving the Citizens Facilitation Centre to decentralise administration by setting up kiosks in the city. He announced that his group of councillors will hold monthly dialogue in every ward to listen to the voice of the people on fixed days. “I have moved around Margao and I am happy to state that people have given Model Margao good support. Today, we have released the Margao centric election manifesto, making a mention of only those projects which are within the limits of the civic body.
On the garbage front, Kamat said the Sonsodo garbage problem will be handled by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC).
Stressing on clean and green Margao, Kamat has mulled modernisation of the Margao Municipal markets, New Market and the Gandhi market. “We will provide effective civic administration with utmost honesty and transparency. Our team will work with dedication, commitment and integrity. We will protect Margao and preserve its identity,” added.
