The Fatorda lake project did not see light of the day during Sardesai’s previous tenure as the government preferred to sit on the proposal after complaints were received from local farmers. But, with Sardesai now in the government and the WRD portfolio held by GFP legislator, Vinoda Paliencar, the Fatorda MLA inspected the lake with the latter on Thursday, sending clear indications that he has set his sights on reviving the
lake project.
“Today we have seen the lake along with the minister. But, this is not an inspection. Since the farmers, who would be part of the lake project, are Catholics and would be in Church on the occasion of Maundy Thursday, we would come again for an inspection of the lake,” Sardesai told
the media.
The TCP Minister along with the WRD Minister later inspected the Talsanzor (spring) and disclosed plans for its revival in the
near future.
“Talsanzor was Salcete’s once famous spring since people believed it had medicinal properties. Now, we have decided to restore the spring and spruce up the entire area,”
he said.
Admitting that he is aware of anti-social activities at the spring site, Sardesai said once restored, school students can be brought here as part of a study tour to show them the natural water resources in
the state.
After inspection, it has been decided to rope in a hydro geologist to carry out a detailed study of the Talsanzor spring and boost the water flow.
The delegation also inspected the Lord Dambab’s water tank near the Nehru stadium and it was resolved to deploy machinery to desilt and clean up the tank.
