With Goa at heart, Parrikar swears by ‘Goemkarponn’

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, in among the first statements made after being sworn in as Chief Minister vowed to protect Goa’s ‘Goemkarponn’ what he referred to Goa’s speciality as well as made sufficient noise to suggest that he would ‘correct’ the ‘grass’. rnSpeaking after the conclusion of the swearing in ceremony,

Parrikar also poked fun at the Congress for failing to stitch together an alliance despite having seventeen MLAs.
“It has been for the cause of the development of the Goa and for Goa’s speciality, which in Goa we call Goemkarponn, we want to take this forward and have received support for this,” Parrikar who once promised special status for Goa, said.
He conceded that the BJP did not have the mandate in a fractured verdict but claimed his coalition represented more than 50 per cent of vote share in the State.
“The mandate is fractured, I agree. It is definitely fractured. But in a fractured mandate, if every fraction gets together, we have become 22 and please count the vote share of all these MLAs. It is 34% BJP, 11... I’m rounding up… MGP… 4% Goa Forward, independents 2.5% that makes it 50.5%. It is perfect 50% plus. 50% of Goans have today sworn their representative, they may belong to different parties, therefore it is a post election coalition,” Parrikar said.
Not wanting to miss an opportunity Parrikar poked fun at them for failing to cobble up the numbers.
“Nobody had the mood to support the Congress because Goa cannot go forward with the Congress… Goans know what happened between 1990 and 2000 when the Congress had governments after the formation of the State. In 10 years there were 12 CMs. Because of this, Goa could not see development. Even today after having 17 MLAs the infighting that they had… Both of them (GFP and MGP) have taken the decision in the interest of Goa. Along with this, two independent MLAs and even the third one gave the mandate,” Parrikar said.
“We were ready to prove (our majority) on the first day itself. We brought all of them on the first day itself and proved to her excellency… 21 came, the 22nd got slightly delayed, he came the next day with the letter. All of them came on their own and showed the strength. While Congress came here today in a bus, the reason for the bus is that they were scared that if people come by car, one of the car may disappear on the way. So they packed everyone in a bus and got them here proving that they have only 17,” Parrikar said.
Day after tomorrow, we will prove the majority first. The first and main business is proving the majority,” Parrikar said.
“Day after tomorrow as per the directions of the SC we will prove our majority. Because it is said that it cannot be done here. We can produce everyone here, but it has to be proved in the House, but let it be clear that this government will last 365x5 days.  had governments after the formation of the State.
