the goan I networkrPANAJI rrAt the time of reading this, the vehicles from Maharashtra and Karnataka as well other states of the country can freely enter the state with the toll booths being discontinued. rIn a terse statement, the State Government announced that the entry fee which was being charged by Public Works Department at the entry check post will be discontinued from today midnight (12:00 a.m. ) i.e. July 1, 2017 in view of implementation of GST. rChief Minister Manohar Parrikar had announced in his annual budget that the tax would be withdrawn once Goods and Services Tax was implemented. rThe withdrawal will likely result in the state exchequer taking a hit of around `50-crore per year. GST has promised restriction free movement of freight between states in a bid to give a boost to the economy, while also compensating states for any losses incurred during the first five years of operation.

As promised the, controversial entry tax for outside vehicles, introduced by the Parrikar regime back in 2013, will be withdrawn with effect from midnight of June 30.
