The supply of vegetables are further expected to be affected further as the Karnataka government has imposed a 14-day lockdown from Tuesday evening.
After a two-day weekend lockdown imposed in Karnataka, the APMC wholesale vegetable market in Belagavi had opened and supplies to Goa had resumed.
The weekend lockdown had affected supply of vegetables to wholesale market and supplies were also jeopardised as authorities had closed the galas. Traders faced huge inconvenience as they had to procure and pack the vegetables on the roadside.
“The situation is expected to worsen in coming days due to the 14-days lockdown and the adamant attitude of authorities who have imposed several restrictions due to which it is becoming extremely difficult for farmers and traders to stock the vegetables,” Shrikant Pote, a wholesaler told The Goan.
“Moreover, farmers are also reluctant to bring the yield to the market due to inconvenience, due to which vegetable prices are expected to soar in next few days.”
Meanwhile, confusion also prevails among the traders as how they would be able to continue supply of vegetables to Goa under hostile conditions.
