As the RTO and the traffic police maintained the heat on traffic violations after the new fines came into force from April 1, huge rush of motorists have been spotted at authorised PUC centres to obtain pollution certificates for the vehicles.
In fact, most of the authorised PUC centres have registered manifold increase in the number of motorists seeking PUC certificates. A PUC authorised agent attributed the rush to panic amongst motorists in the wake of the implementation of the new fines for traffic violations.
“Earlier, my PUC centre used to issue less number of pollution test certificates. The rush has now increased with the government notifying the hefty fines. There seemed panic amongst the motorists now as they want to escape the hefty fines,” the agent remarked.
Traffic officials informed that the RTO and the traffic personnel have launched a concerted drive to implement the new fines from Friday.
A police official in private expressed their satisfaction over the rush of motorists to obtain the pollution test certificates from the authorised agencies. “We have information that the sales of helmets have also gone up in the last two days,” the official pointed out, adding that the sole objective behind the implementation of the new fine regime is not to mop up additional revenue, but in the interest of the motorists and riders.
