Villagers alerted to big cat movement in Mollem

PANAJI

Villages in the vicinity of the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park at Mollem have been alerted to tiger movement in the area and advised to avoid letting out cattle and goats for grazing.

In a letter to the sarpanch of Mollem, a senior forest official has urged the panchayat body to create awareness about the movement of a tiger.

The Forest department's action comes a day after a video clip of a tiger crossing a road went viral on social media forums.

"You are kindly requested to make awareness on tiger movement within the villages of your Panchayat which are falling in the corridor areas of Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park," said the notice issued by Dr Siddesh Naik, who is Range Forest Officer, Wildlife-Mollem.

"Villagers may be informed not to stray livestock such as cattle, goats for grazing," Naik said in the notice to the sarpanch, adding that people should also be cautious in relation to moving around for collection of firewood from the protected areas of the sanctuary and National park.
