CANACONA
Canacona police have stated that a woman found dead in Gulem-Canacona last week was murdered and her husband is on the run.
Police also ascertained the identity of the woman, after her highly decomposed body was located behind a government primary school at Gulem.
The woman is believed to have been strangulated by a dupatta and following an autopsy report, Canacona police registered a case of murder.
After ascertaining the type of clothing, Canacona police suspected the woman was a non-Goan and initially, there was no missing report of any woman at any of the police stations in the State.
As police were conducting investigations, a missing complaint was reportedly registered at Margao police station that a woman had gone missing. The couple has a 10-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old son.
Canacona police then visited a location in Malbhat-Margao. During the investigation, police found out that Ajay Malik (45) took his wife Savita Devi (42) on the pretext of making some purchases and they had boarded a KTC Bus to proceed to Canacona. Both had alighted at Gulem near the road towards Agonda.
“The body of Savita was later found on April 19. Her husband, Ajay, was the last person seen with his wife and these details were found during our investigation,” informed Canacona PI Pravin Gawas.
As the family hails from Bihar, police suspect Ajay may have fled to Bihar. Canacona police deputed a team led by a PSI to find and trace the accused.
