Mormugao DySP Sucheta Dessai said it was a serious lapse on part of Mormugao police to leave the woman at Vasco Railway station instead of admitting her in a hospital.
According to a reliable source, the woman was discovered by an angler, who heard her shouting for help. “The angler was initially scared, but after looking at her trapped in between rocks he called for help,” informed the source.
The source added that MPT fire officials, which rushed to the site, gave the woman some plastic to wrap around her waist. The fire officials later asked her to climb on a ladder, but the woman refused to do so. They had to tie a rope around her waist and bring her to safety after carrying her on their shoulders, added the source.
In the meantime, Mormugao police and a 108 ambulance also rushed to the site. But instead of conducting an inquiry and sending the woman for medical attention, the police with the help of 108 ambulance, dropped her to Vasco Railway station just because she was shouting “railway station”.
When contacted, Mormugao police stated that they could not understand what the woman was talking.
When the matter was brought to the notice of Mormugao DySP Sucheta Dessai, she said she was not aware of the incident and it was only after some media person called on her, she came to know about it.
“It is serious lapse on the part of Mormugao police to just leave the woman at the railway station, instead of admitting her to a hospital,” said DySP Dessai.
“I will conduct an inquiry into the incident and will initiate action against those involved in such gross negligence,” added DySP Dessai.
