A woman from Andhra Pradesh residing at Zingdimoll in Curti-Ponda was arrested on charges of robbing gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 6.53 lakh from a house near Naga Masjid at Curti.
According to police reports, a 29-year-old housewife had filed a police complaint stating the woman Ratnamala Chandrashekar Oguru had entered her house by ringing the door bell.
The complainant stated she forcibly latched her sister-in-law inside a bathroom, while she and her minor son were confined in a bedroom.
The accused then allegedly decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs 6.15 lakh and cash of Rs 38,000, which were in the safe of the cupboard.
Ponda police formed teams as part of the investigations and to cover various angles into the robbery.
They said several persons were interrogated, while combing and search operations were conducted.
During the course of the investigation, the woman, Ratnamala Chattdrashekar Oguru, residing at Zingdimoll in Curti-Ponda and a native of Nellore-Andhra Pradesh was taken into custody. She later confessed to the crime.
Most of the stolen property, gold ornaments approximately worth Rs 6 lakh and cash of Rs 19,250 has been recovered at the instance of the accused.
