Vasco railway police have registered an (zero FIR) offence of rape against four unknown persons for allegedly gang-raping a 23-year-old woman from Kerala in a Kochuveli-Marusagar train.
According to sources, the victim was found in a semi-conscious state in a compartment of the Vasco-Kulem train on Sunday evening and was later shifted by railway staff to the ChicalimSub District Hospital in an ambulance.
According to Vasco Railway PI Sachin Panhalkar, Vasco railway police received a call from the medical officer at the Chicalim Sub District Hospital that a woman had been brought to the hospital in a 108 ambulance from the Vasco railway station and had sought their assistance to ascertain her whereabouts.
“We were asked to enquire about her whereabouts and a police team went to the hospital, where her medical examination was done and we recorded her statement.”
“In her statement, the woman claimed she had been gang-raped in a train toilet. The woman said she was married and was a Maths teacher at a school in Kerala.”
“She said she wanted to work as a teacher in Mangalore and had left from her native place on April 20 and had boarded the train at the Shoranur railway station in Kerala at around 11 pm.”
“While she was travelling in the sleeper class, she noticed that there were four males who offered her mineral water, after which she felt giddy,” said PI Panhalkar.
PI Panhalkar said the woman faintly recollected that she was taken to the toilet where the door was latched and she was raped before she lost consciousness.
“The incident happened somewhere between Kannur and Kasargod station in Kerala and we have registered a zero offence of rape here at Vasco railway police station.”
“We have also informed their family and handed over the victim to them. As per directions, we will forward this case to the Kerala police along with necessary primary investigation details, medical examination reports and statements of the victim,” said
PI Panhalkar.
