To mark International Women’s Day, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary and Usgao Panch Manisha Usgaokar visited the protest site at Mirabag where women have been holding a sit-in for the past month against the proposed bandhara. She celebrated the day by cutting a cake and distributing roses to the women taking part in the protest.
Addressing the gathering, she said voters should not change their stand during elections for a small amount of money. Instead, they should support common people, farmers, orchards and temples that could be affected by the proposed project.
She appealed to people to respond in the coming Assembly elections to leaders who support the construction of the bandhara despite concerns about submergence.
Usgaokar also criticised leaders who call their own workers “terrorists”, saying the people of Mirabag will continue their protest.
She said this year’s Women’s Day was memorable for her as she saw women setting aside daily work to protest to protect their village.
