Name allegedly entered in Vasco electoral roll
VASCO
A woman from Vasco has been booked by Vasco police on charges of suppressing her Portuguese nationality and fraudulently enrolling her name in the electoral roll of Vasco constituency.
According to police, the case was registered following a complaint lodged by the Executive Magistrate and Mamlatdar of Mormugao Taluka, who is also the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) for the Vasco Assembly constituency.
Police identified the accused as Elizabeth Luis of Bhute Bhat, Vasco.
As per the complaint, Luis was allegedly aware that she had acquired Portuguese nationality and was holding a Portuguese passport. However, during the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll conducted by the Election Commission of India, she allegedly suppressed this information while submitting the enumeration form.
Police said the accused declared and submitted the form through the Booth Level Officer of the Mormugao Municipal Council to the Mamlatdar of Mormugao, thereby allegedly concealing her foreign nationality while seeking enrolment in the voters’ list.
By withholding this information, the accused allegedly misled authorities and submitted the document as genuine, which resulted in her name being fraudulently enrolled in the electoral roll of the Vasco Assembly constituency.
Based on the complaint, Vasco police registered an offence against Elizabeth Luis under sections 223, 236 and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
Police said the investigation is being carried out by PSI Nikhil Naik Dessai of Vasco police station under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
