Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho made it clear that illegal houses would not be allowed in his Dabolim constituency, but added that houses on government records for several years may be permitted to improvise as a matter of right.
Godinho was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the Children’s park cum garden in Bogmalo in the presence of the sarpanch and other panch members of Bogmalo Panchayat.
“We will put a full stop to illegal houses in Dabolim constituency, but at the same time small houses existing on panchayat and government records for years will be allowed to improvise or be permitted to be modified.”
“Some people living in small tiled-roof houses for over 30 years may want to put a terrace and we should not stop them. I have directed the BDO and panchayat to act immediately and remove many illegal stalls and carts mushrooming along the Bogmalo Road and which were objected to by the airport authority and the Navy as well,” said Godinho.
Godinho said a large number development works were being taken up in Dabolim constituency.
“Several areas have been beautified, while even signals and traffic circles are being set up at various busy traffic junctions. We have just opened a Children’s park cum garden in an open space which was once a dark spot that has been beautified and converted into a park.”
“Work on a new garbage treatment plant at Chicalim to make gas and fertilizer has also been tendered and many roads will also be hotmixed in Dabolim constituency,” the minister added.
