Word of caution for New Year morning walks

VASCO
Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh on Saturday has appealed to people, especially senior citizens, to avoid taking their morning walks on January 1.

“We are already geared up from our side to take care of drunken driving and I want to warn motorists that they will face strict action if found driving after drinking alcohol,” said DySP Shaikh.

“We also request locals to avoid taking their morning walks on the roads on January 1 because there may be some persons who may either be drunk or half asleep during driving because many of them party all night. We appeal to people to strictly use footpaths in case they want to go for a walk but if possible avoid taking morning walk on the main road,” said DySP Shaikh.

Meanwhile, DySP Salim Shaikh said around 250 police staff would be deployed on roads and various locations in Mormugao to prevent drunken driving and road accidents on New Year’s Eve.

“We have made elaborate arrangements considering the last day of the New Year and midnight Masses on Sunday. We also know that many people have New Year’s parties in starred hotels and coastal areas and we have made arrangements for that.”
