Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh on Saturday said around 250 police staff would be deployed on roads and various locations in Mormugao to prevent drunken driving and road accidents on New Year's Eve.
"We have made elaborate arrangements considering the last day of the New Year and midnight Masses on Sunday. We also know that many people have New Year’s parties in starred hotels and coastal areas and we have made arrangements for that.”
“Most locals celebrate in Baina, Bogmalo and Velsao beaches and we have made all required arrangements for traffic movement as well. We have seen sometimes that people drink and drive and we have decided to deploy maximum police and traffic police from Vasco, Verna and Mormugao Police stations.”
DySP Shaikh said around 250 police staff would be on night duty to prevent drunken driving in a bid to prevent road accidents.
“We will also have Naka Bandi at various locations and we will put all our PCRs and Motorbike patrolling vehicles on duty. We have also asked additional staff from IRB and Traffic Police to prevent drunken driving cases and road accidents," he added.
