OLD GOA
It took the Se Old Goa panchayat 14 days to issue a show-cause notice to the firm on a complaint over allotment of house numbers to non-existing structures.
It may be recalled that The Goan had highlighted that activist Mariano Ferrao and Ponda local John Mascarenhas had, on December 14, complained to the panchayat about allotment of 21 house numbers to a firm for structures that do not exist.
The complainants, in their application, had stated that the house numbers were allotted by bifurcating a single house number.
They had further stated that though 21 house numbers were issued, that many structures did not actually exist.
Following which, the Old Goa panchayat had resolved in its fortnightly meeting held the next day i.e. December 15 that a show-cause notice should be issued to the firm asking why the house numbers should not be revoked.
However, the resolution remained only on paper and the actual show-cause notice was not issued.
But, the panchayat issued a show-cause notice to the firm on December 29 asking the firm why the said house numbers should not be revoked and has given seven the firm seven days time to reply to the show-cause notice.
Meanwhile, complainant John Mascarenhas informed that he was issued a copy of the show-cause notice only on December 30, and that too through social media.
“I was sent a copy of the show cause notice on Saturday,” Mascarenhas said.
