When the Vande Bharat Express train chugged in at the Margao railway station on Saturday evening after a maiden run from Mangaluru, the Margao railway station achieved the distinction of being one of the three Indian cities which have been connected by two Vande Bharat trains.

The Vande Bharat Express running between Margao and Mumbai was inaugurated a couple of months ago, and the Vande Bharat train flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually from Ayodhya on Saturday will connect Margao to the Karnataka city of Mangaluru.

After being flagged off by the Prime Minister virtually on Saturday from Mangaluru, the train chugged in at the Margao railway station and was welcomed by Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Tanavade, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, his Navelim counterpart Ulhas Tuemkar, Margao's First Citizen Damu Shirodkar, councillors and a large number of citizens.

At a function organised at the Margao railway station, Tanavade said railway infrastructure is being toned up to world-class standard during the rule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

“Margao railway station is today playing host to a lounge facility. It is not an ordinary lounge but with an air conditioning facility. Similarly, the washrooms are comparable to the best airports in the country. This shows that the government under Prime Minister Modi is working to provide world-class amenities at the railway stations for the common men,” he said.

The Rajya Sabha MP said that Goa has benefited from the Prime Minister’s Vande Bharat train project, with Margao connected to Mumbai in the north and Mangaluru in the South by the Vande Bharat trains. He further said the Margao railway stations along with a host of railway stations across the country will get world-class amenities.

In his address, Margao MLA Kamat said railways is witnessing a sea change due to Prime Minister Modi’s vision to provide the best of amenities for the train commuters. “The Margao-Mangaluru Vande Bharat train will help visitors from the two States to reach their destination in four and half hours,” he said while saying that the Prime Minister’s Vande Bharat gift to Goa has come at a time when he has completed 29 years as an MLA representing Margao.

Train No. 20646 / 20645 Mangaluru Central-Madgaon Jn-Mangaluru Central Vande Bharat Express will run six days a week, except on Thursdays. Train No. 20646 Mangaluru Central-Madgaon Jn Vande Bharat Express will leave from Mangaluru Central at 8:30 hrs every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (six days a week) from Sunday, December 31. The train will reach Madgaon Jn at 13:15 hrs on the same day.

Train No. 20645 Madgaon Jn-Mangaluru Central Vande Bharat Express will leave from Madgaon Jn at 18:10 hrs every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (six days a week) from Sunday.  The train will reach Mangaluru Central at 22:45 hrs on the same day. It will halt at Udupi and Karwar stations.
