Work on the Rs 8 crore beautification project at Khind-Morjim began on Friday, with a number of facilities being planned in the area.

In a bid to boost the tourism potentials in the area, Chief Minister Laximikant Parsekar had laid foundation stone for the beautification project before the Election Code of Conduct came into force.

Khind is an area that belongs to the Morjim Devastan Committee and the committee sanction its NOC to the development work. The beautification project will consist of a jetty, water sports facilities, a coffee centre, jogger's track and other tourist-related projects.

Locals are hopeful that the beautification project would promote tourism potentials in Morjim, thereby providing further employment avenues for the local youth.

The village has a population of about 15,000 and the coastal village draws in huge numbers of tourists during the tourism season.

Chief Minister Parsekar also had taken the initiative to develop the Chapora river front, but the project has been kept on hold amid stiff public opposition in the area.
