Work for public welfare: Mauvin to Mormugao industrial units

Fix roads, support village, else face dire action, says p’yat minister

VASCO
Panchayat Minister and Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho has asked units in the Mormugao Industrial Estate at Chicalim to promote public welfare, failing which he has threatened to take them to task.
"The Mormugao Industrial Estate existed much before I was elected Dabolim MLA and it has manipulated authorities concerned in the past.
"The local comunidade has been fighting against the industrial estate after accusing it of usurping the land," said Godinho, while speaking to reporters along the sidelines of a recent function at Dabolim.
"Now that these units have been set up, they must do some public good as they have been running huge business for several years without paying anything to any authorities.
"The panchayat and the comunidade get nothing and neither has the neighbouring locality benefited in any way," he said.
Godinho further said the roads used by the units at the industrial estate are in a bad state.
"The companies must immediately take up the work of roads under CSR, as they use the roads and earn crores of rupees."
Godinho said he plans to convene a meeting of all stakeholders of the industrial estate, including petroleum companies, so that some income is generated to the panchayat and other related authorities.
"I am on the same page as the comunidade and I am trying to streamline things. I appeal to them to come to the panchayat for negotiations and do something in public interest.
"If they don't agree to do so, they will get a strong message and will repent later," panchayat minister warned.
