Work to reconstruct a nullah near the Three Kings Church at Reis Magos and to lay pavers in the church premises, at a combined cost of Rs 27 lakh, was launched on Saturday.
Saligao MLA Kedar Naik laid the foundation stone for both projects in the presence of Reis Magos Parish Priest Fr Benjamin Victoria, ZP member Sandeep Bandodkar, Reis Magos Sarpanch Sushmita Pednekar, and panch members of the Reis Magos panchayat.
Speaking on the occasion, Naik said water flowing down from the hillock on the left-hand side of the church used to stagnate in the existing nullah.
“To ensure that water flows from the nullah and goes straight into the Mandovi River, the reconstruction of this existing nullah is now being done by the Water Resources Department at a cost of Rs 17 lakh. Similarly, pavers are being laid in the premises of the Reis Magos Church at a cost of Rs 10 lakh, and the work is being done through ZP funds. In addition, the church has requested me to construct a hall and futsal ground. Both these works will be undertaken shortly,” said Naik.
Parish Priest Fr Benjamin Victoria said the Feast of Three Kings Church will be celebrated in January 2026.
“It was necessary to carry out beautification of the church, and I requested the local MLA for the reconstruction of the nullah and the laying of pavers in the church premises. I am thankful to the MLA for immediately undertaking both these works,” said Fr Victoria.
ZP member Sandeep Bandodkar and Reis Magos Sarpanch Sushmita Pednekar also spoke on the occasion.
