Work on four projects worth Rs 40 cr launched in Sanguem

The foundation stones for four major projects worth about Rs 40 crore were laid in different parts of Sangum constituency, on the occasion of the birthday of Social Welfare Minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldesai on Wednesday.

Among the dignitaries present to greet the minister included Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, Mayem MLA Premendra Shet, Cortalim MLA Anton Vas, Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa and BJP State President Damodar Naik.

At Old Wadem, a foundation stone was laid for the construction of the school ground estimated to cost Rs 2.65 crore, followed by the laying of foundation stone for the construction of the Agricultural Office Complex at Pajimol-Uguem, to be built at a cost of about Rs 10 crore.

Besides, the foundation stone of the construction of the Veterinary Hospital at Pajimol-Sanguem, which is expected to cost about Rs 13.5 crore was also laid.

On the occasion, Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar said there is a need for a veterinary hospital in the taluka which will be built and completed within a year.

Appealing to farmers to increase milk production, Halarnkar said the new hospital will have an operation theatre, which would benefit the farmers to a great extent.

In the afternoon, a foundation stone was laid for the construction of a new building for the Sanguem Police Station.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police Alok Verma said the current building of Sanguem Police Station is very old, dating back to 1946. He added that the new building will be equipped with modern facilities and construction work will be completed in 18 months.

South Goa Superintendent of Police Tikam Singh Verma, ZP Member Suresh Kepekar, Sanguem Municipal Council Chairperson Santiksha Gadkar, SMC Vice Chairperson Sangameshwar Naik, Former MLA Vasudev Meng Gaonkar, Secretary (AH&VS) Prasanna Acharya, Director of Agriculture Sandeep Phaldesai, Director of AH&VS Dr Veena Kumar, MD of Info Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd Praveen Volvoikar, Uguem Sarpanch Divya Naik, Bhati Sarpanch Chandrakant Gaonkar, Sanguem BJP Mandal President Rajesh Gaonkar, and other officials were present on the occasion.
