Kavlekar informed that the files related to the project needs to get fresh financial
approval from the chief minister and then the project work will start.
Speaking to The Goan, Kavlekar said the Rs 6 crore market complex project was supposed to start last year, but due to the code of conduct, the construction work
was delayed.
“The work tender process was done last year. The project had technical approval, but after the assembly election and as the new government is formed, the chief minister has asked to send the project files to his office for fresh approvals,” he said.
“The files of the proposed project will go under the scrutiny of chief minister and soon the foundation stone of the market complex will be laid and the work will start,” Kavlekar added.
Kavlekar said to build the first phase of the complex building, the possession of the existing old building has been handed over to Goa State Urban Development Agency. Tenders of two phases will be floated,
but the work of the first floor will start.
“The old building will be demolished and the shopkeepers from the existing market building will be shifted to Quepem commercial complex building and later other phase of the project building will start,” he said.
