World's first digitally monitored twins get cradling ceremony in Vasco

VASCO: A Goan woman who reportedly became the world's first mother to give birth to twins monitored in the womb using a potentially life-saving digital growth chart arrived in Vasco on Tuesday and along with her husband, conducted the Barso (cradling) ceremony of their twins on Wednesday.
Mala Vast Dhuri had delivered identical boys, Kiaan and Kush, by caesarean at St George's Hospital in south London in July and their development had been checked against growth charts designed specifically for twins, national and international media reports stated.
According to 'Daily Mirror', the latest project developed for twins and funded by The UK's Twins and Multiple Births Association now enables doctors to "compare babies' development against what is normal for twins, rather than for single births."
The Goan couple, Kiran and Mala Vasta Dhuri, arrived in Goa on Tuesday and Kiran organised the cradling ceremony (Barso) of the twins at his house in New Vaddem.
The event attracted people from the entire locality, as many wanted to catch a glimpse of the twins, who had been featured by the media from across the world.
Speaking to media persons, a jubilant Mala and Kiran said they were surprised and ecstatic to learn that Mala had twins in her womb.
"We are lucky as the research for the growth chart of twins was never there prior to this. We are the first couple in the world to have had babies using these growth charts specially for twins. A lot of scans were being done to monitor the babies in my womb," said Mala.
She further informed that St George's hospital in South London along with six other hospitals had conducted scans on over 6,000 women and this research had led to data used to create the world's first growth chart for twins.
"This new chart for twins provided accurate data to monitor our twins. I think that doctors and hospitals across India should implement this data and it is free to download. Further information could be sought from St George's hospital as well," Mala added.
Kiran's mother, who was very excited to see her grandchildren, said: "We have been very fortunate and I thank God that a member of our family have been a part of this new development that will be used across the world and help save lives."
Kiran, who will be leaving for the UK shortly, said the twins are expected to stay with Mala in Goa for the next one year.
