“We are not migrants, but natives of this place. Our forefathers’ thatched huts have been refurbished by us with the verbal permission of the original landlady. Besides, we have structures to keep canoes during rainy season, which we have also refurbished over the years. However, without anybody’s knowledge, the resort entered into a sale deed and we came to know about it only after 4 -5 years,” informed Prashant Kankonkar, a worried resident.
Another resident, Povitr Dhuri said: “Our worry are our houses and nothing else. The company which purchased this land of approximately 1.10 lakh sq mtrs from the original owners without our knowledge or intimation represented over 300 illegal structures, which according to us our temporary structures should not be more than 100, which we built for needs as our families extended over the years.”
They said most of their residential structures existed since 50 years but may not
be having requisite house numbers.
Sources informed that due to the hidden sale deed in which the company consisting of foreign nationals as directors entered into with the original landlord, their mutation application was rejected twice and the third request is fixed for hearing.
Incidentally, many coastal residents at Colomb have taken up dismantling of their structures after hearing the news of inspection.
“Our primary concern are our houses, which we have refurbished over the years, which we will protect at all cost,” added another resident, Shivanand Pagi.
