It has come to light that the anti-sea erosion wall being constructed along the seaward edge of the property belonging to Calangute MLA Michael Lobo and Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo’s son has received the necessary approvals from the authorities concerned.
Sources in the Water Resources Department (WRD) confirmed that the MLA couple had obtained official permission from the department to execute the construction.
The project, according to officials, was sanctioned as a self-funded work, with the cost of construction borne entirely by the applicants. “The WRD issues such permissions only after detailed scrutiny and with government approval. The party concerned has to bear the cost and pay supervision charges to the department,” a senior WRD engineer explained, adding that no public funds are involved in such works.
It has also been learnt that the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) granted the required CRZ clearance for the project.
Both MLAs have consistently maintained that the construction is being carried out strictly as per the permissions.
“We have obtained all necessary approvals from the WRD and the CRZ authorities. The entire cost has been deposited with the government, and the WRD is only executing the work,” MLA Delilah Lobo had said.
The revelation comes amid a growing political controversy in Anjuna, where opposition leaders and local activists have questioned the legality of the project.
