After a long battle against the construction of a well outside the Cuncolim industrial estate, the Water Resources Department has on Friday confiscated and attached the water pump, besides the electrical fittings and pipes from the well.
WRD Assistant Engineer, Melita Fernandes along with officials of the Electricity Department and the fire personnel descended at the well site adjoining the IDC and seized the items. The WRD official said a detailed report on the seizure of the water pump, PVC pipes, besides electrical fittings will be submitted to the higher ups for further action. AE Melita further pointed out that the well is approximately around 11.5 meter in height, with the water level around 3.5 meters.
A resident of Cuncolim Avi Desai expressed satisfaction that Cuncolkars have finally got justice in the illegal well dug up just outside the IDC. “We had been waging a battle against the well for the last several months. People of Cuncolim had lent their support to us against the well which was dug up without permission from the authorities”, he said.
Expressing gratitude to the WRD officials for taking action in the matter, Desai said people of Cuncolim will continue the ongoing movement till the polluting units in the Cuncolim industrial estate are shut down.
