“We have taken up work to improve a major bundh costing around Rs 3.18 crore and a nullah at Rs 57 lakh in Candolim. Works of another Rs 25 crore will also be taken up in Calangute constituency,” Paliencar said.
The water resources minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone for both the projects at Candolim panchayat office in the presence of local MLA, Michael Lobo.
Candolim Sarpanch Blaize Fernandes, panchayat members and WRD officials were also present.
Continuing, Paliencar said the Calangute MLA has been very proactive in his constituency and proposed a lot of works to bring about development in the area.
He said the local MLA has been working hard to bring about change in the coastal constituency and took up several works in Calangute.
“Calangute deserves new projects and development as the place is popular world over. We will work to bring more projects in this coastal village,” he said.
Paliencar said that he was able to take up a lot of works through his department with the help and blessings of former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar and would continue to serve the people of Goa.
“The water resources department will walk the extra mile in fulfilling the aspirations of the people and take up works to bring about overall progress in the State,” he said.
WRD will take up improvement of existing bundh from Candolim Bridge to Sinquerim at a cost of Rs 3.18 crore.
The scope of the work was to repair the bundh of around 1500 metres in length which has been lying in dilapidated condition. The bundh has been breached at many places and the sluice gate has also been damaged.

MAPUSA: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said opposition to any initiative will always be there but appealed to the people of his constituency to come forward and discuss issues with local panchayat and him to resolve problems or misunderstanding, if any.
“Whatever works you take up, there’s always an opposition. But the good thing is that slowly the opposition has started reducing. People are beginning to understand,” Lobo said.
The Calangute MLA thanked the farmers of Candolim who initially opposed the work to improve the bundh but has now realised that it was necessary.
“Instead of going to court, those who have doubt about certain works should contact the local panchayat or even invite me. Let us all work together and bring about change in the constituency,” Lobo said.
