Operations at the Goa International Airport in Dabolim have been disrupted after X-ray scanners at both the domestic and international cargo terminals remained non-functional for a considerable period, forcing freight operators to divert consignments to Manohar International Airport in Mopa.
According to sources aware of the development, the scanner outage has brought cargo clearances at the Dabolim terminals to a halt, causing inconvenience to businesses and trade operators that rely on the airport’s freight facilities.
“X-ray scanners of domestic and international terminals of Goa International Airport cargo sections in Dabolim have been non-functional for quite some time, keeping cargo clearance on hold and causing inconvenience to citizens while also leading to revenue losses,” a source confirmed.
The disruption has prompted authorities and logistics operators to reroute shipments to Mopa to clear the backlog and avoid delays, particularly for sensitive and time-critical consignments.
Industry sources said at least four tonnes of freight had already been diverted to Mopa due to the disruption.
The ongoing situation has raised concerns among local exporters, logistics firms and trade associations, who fear that prolonged downtime could result in financial losses and affect Goa’s trade operations.
Airport authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the timeline for repairing or replacing the faulty scanning machinery.
