Yet again, water pipeline damaged during NH widening work

For the second time infive days, a water pipeline was damaged while executing the NH-66 expansionwork near Mapusa and Bardez is expected to receive restricted water supply onTuesday.

According to reports,the pipeline supplying water from Guirim to Porvorim was damaged by machineryof the MVR Infra Pvt Ltd, which has been contracted for the national highwayroad expansion work, at Guirim on Monday afternoon.

Huge amounts of watergot wasted and water department officials had to stop the Assnora water treatmentplant in order to conduct repair work, which began late Monday night.

“Repair work will beconducted on a warfooting and water supply will be restored at the earliest,”said PWD Executive Engineer (water) Nitin Neurekar.

Earlier on Wednesday,the main 1000 mm water pipeline was damaged while executing the NH-66 expansionwork near Binani in Colvale.

A senior PWD officialinformed that a JCB operator belonging to MVR Infra Pvt Ltd that has beencontracted for the national highway road expansion work broke the pipelinewhile carrying some digging work in the area.

It may be recalled in asimilar incident, a PWD water pipeline was damaged twice at the Carrasvaddojunction, while carrying out NH expansion work in the past.

Several areas in Bardezhad to go without water then as PWD officials took time to repair the pipeline.
