Stating that yoga has been attracting scientific attention and is getting acceptance not only in India but across the world, MPT Chairman Dr E Ramesh Kumar said that many people have realised the importance of the age-old practice.
Dr Kumar was addressing the International Yoga Day celebrations at the Officers’ Club of Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) on Friday. The function was organized by the MPT medical department under the guidance of Dr Nimish Pillai, MPT chief medical officer.
Among those present at the event included MPT Dy Chairman GP Rai, Chief Vigilance Officer Vijaya Dat Kagita, heads of various departments, officers and other employees. “Yoga should not be a once-a-month kind of activity, rather it is necessary to practice yoga on a regular basis. I am happy to know that port employees are already into yoga practice under a trained yoga teacher,” said Dr Kumar.
Dr Pillai stressed on the significance and importance of yoga. “Yoga is a gift for India from the ancient world. Yoga literally means, ‘to unite’ and it unites the body and mind together. Yoga not only helps to relax the body and mind, but can accrue several other health benefits, if practiced regularly,” said Dr Pillai.
Dr Reshma Bale, ayurveda physician at the MPT Hospital along with the yoga guru Radhik Nair conducted the yoga session, explained the health benefits of each and every asana and concluded by telling them the importance of practicing it on a regular basis.
