Youth arrested for carrying ammunition sans license

A 26-year-old passenger from Uttarakhand, Anshul Ghai, was arrested at Manohar International Airport (MIA) after security personnel found six live rounds of ammunition in his luggage during a routine screening. Ghai had received the ammunition as a memento from his late Colonel uncle's wife Surekha Ghai during his visit to Pune.

According to the Mopa Airport police, during questioning, Ghai revealed that he had travelled to Shirdi on September 7 and, the following day, visited his aunt at Khandwa, Pune. His aunt had given him the bag as a keepsake of his late uncle, Colonel Mahesh Ghai.

The youth along with his friends, later travelled to Goa. He was about to board an Akasa Air flight to New Delhi when the ammunition was found. He was subsequently arrested for carrying the ammunition without licence or permission.

An FIR has been registered under the Arms Act, 1959.
