MAPUSA

A 21-year-old youth from Porvorim has been arrested on charges of rash and negligent driving after his Mercedes car struck and seriously injured a woman in Siolim on Tuesday evening.

According to Anjuna Police, the accused, identified as Archit Sandeep Sangelkar, was driving from Gudem-Siolim towards Fernandes-vaddo when he hit a pedestrian, Judith Fernandes (37), near the Sao Joao Chapel.

The impact caused the victim to fall and suffer grievous injuries.

More concerning, police said, was that the accused fled the scene without informing authorities or administering first aid to the injured woman.

The vehicle involved, a white Mercedes GLA 200 with registration number GA 07 Q 0990, has since been seized.

Investigations have revealed that Sangelkar is a photographer by profession.

An FIR has been registered under Section 281 and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 134(a) and 134(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act. Anjuna Police are investigating further.
