A group of Calangute youth have called for a peaceful march on Sunday (January 8) in protest against illegal dance bars and other illegalities that was going on in the beach village of Calangute.
The youth have requested people of Calangute, the surrounding villages and other parts of Goa to join the peaceful march which will begin at 4 pm from Jambleshwar Temple and wind up at the Baga beach.
“This fight is ours and everyone’s. It’s a fight for the future generations. It’s a battle to put an end to all the illegalities taking place in the village. We are protesting against illegal dance bars that are operating in Calangute and also other illegalities like massage parlours, drugs, prostitution etc. We request people to join the peaceful march along with their families,” said Kundan Kerkar, one of the many youth who have joined hands to fight against the evil of dance bars.
Another youth informed that the number of illegal dance bars shot up suddenly in the village and its impact will be frightening and therefore it was important to protest and join the peaceful march.
“Dance bars are like cancer and it’s spreading fast. This cancer is not only confined to the village of Calangute but is spreading in other parts of Goa. If we don’t take the right steps in time then the consequences could be dreadful for our future,” he said.
The President of Calangute Constituency Forum Premanand Diukar has also appealed to the villagers to join the march to save the beach village for posterity.
It may be recalled, the Calangute panchayat had taken a firm stand against the illegal dance bars and initiated some steps in an effort to shut the illegal activity in the village.
