Youth killed in tempo crash at Socorro

A youth was killed when a goods carrier tempo, registration number GA-08-V-8768, crashed into the compound wall of the Vetal Rashtroli Hanuman Ganpati temple at around 11 am on Sunday. The tempo was heading towards Poithona from Kadamba Depot.  

According to Porvorim Police, the driver, Riyan Sheikh, lost control of the vehicle as he reached Kadamba Depot, causing the crash. The impact damaged two parked two-wheelers, GA-05-AA-0664 and GA-03-AA-0785. A 35-year-old man, Umesh Muttagi, was sitting on a bench by the temple and was killed instantly.  

The police have detained Riyan Sheikh for rash and negligent driving. Umesh Muttagi’s body has been sent for postmortem. Police Inspector Rahul Parab is investigating the incident.
