A day after news broke out that Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited (ZACL), an iconic and one of the oldest plants in Goa had begun operations on Saturday, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha said that it was the timely intervention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that had helped the company financially.

Saldanha, speaking to reporters at Vasco said that she was extremely happy with the news of ZACL resuming operations of the NPK plant and assured that the other DAP and urea plants would also resume operations soon.

“I am very relieved and happy that ZACL has restarted operations of one of its plants which means many workers will now be more secure about their jobs. I also want to say that the intervention of Sawant went a long way to assist the company to obtain the necessary financial assistance. I think  the subsidy that was overdue was released that enabled the company to move forward. There is no doubt that the second plant will also start in a short time,” she said.

Saying that such a thing was possible only because there was a level of understanding between the management and its employees and it is only when both cooperate with each another that good things happen, Alina said, “This means a lot to me because countless workers in ZACL are from my constituency and I am glad that this oldest factory in Goa is findings it’s way back on the top.”

Resumption of ops means a lot to Sancoale: Sarpanch

VASCO  : Stating that Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited ( ZACL ) resuming operations meant a lot to Sancoale panchayat and its residents, Sarpanch Girsih Pillai on Monday said that the village known as Zuarinagar was named after the iconic factory which had always been an integral part of Sancoale.

“There have been so many people who have offered prayers hoping that ZACL would resume operations soon. ZACL, besides offering employment to many in the village, also generated revenue for Sancoale panchayat. ZACL resuming operations means a lot to the panchayat because it has assisted the panchayat in many development works financially and also by providing land. The factory was always a source of inspiration to many of the residents in the area and I personally had seen the factory performing to it’s fullest capacity since childhood,” said Pillai.

“ZACL also means a lot to the Zuarinagar area where there are so many small establishments, shops, businesses which were indirectly dependent on ZACL. The entire market area of Zuarinagar, Birla is dependent on the employees of ZACL who buy their monthly needs from these establishments. These establishments also generate revenue for the panchayat and if ZACL shuts down, these markets would to shut down as well,” he added.

Besides this, ZACL also offered employment to several residents of this area and there were many who were indirectly dependent on ZACL as well.

“There were direct employees plus people working under contractors at ZACL. Besides these there were transporters and other businessmen who were also indirectly dependent on ZACL. The resumption of operations has had a positive cascading effect on many people of Sancoale panchayat,” he stated.

“ZACL had also always been cooperative to Sancoale panchayat and has given us great support and even offered us land for development like community toilets and a garbage segregating site, just to name a few. It is like a lifeline that serves the need of many single-handedly,” added Pillai.
